Inputs

IEEE Std 7003-2024, Clause 8.2Carried into ISO/IEC/IEEE DIS 42703Retrieved 20 October 2026

The inputs are the current versions of the profile, values statement, stakeholder work, data representation and evaluation, plus the business case, design, deployment strategy and retirement plan.

What clause 8.2 asks

The review uses the latest version of several items. From the bias work: the profile, the values statement, the stakeholder set, the data record and the evaluation report. From the life cycle: the business case, the design, the deployment plan and the retirement plan. The word latest matters. A review built on an old stakeholder set or an old data record is not the review the clause asks for.

Why it matters

The input list is a completeness check. If any current version is missing, the assessment cannot be signed honestly. The two groups also show the assessment's dual audience: the bias process supplies the social and representation evidence, and the life cycle supplies the engineering and commercial context. A risk register built only from the engineering side will miss the stakeholder impact, and one built only from the bias side will miss the deployment reality.

What good looks like

Before each assessment, collect the current version of every input and record the version numbers. Where a version is missing, mark the assessment incomplete and name the missing item. Do not substitute last quarter's stakeholder set because the new one is late. Then read the retirement plan, because decommissioning is a life cycle stage with its own risks.

Evidence an assessor asks for

The assessor will compare the assessment date with the input dates. An assessment dated before its inputs is a reconstruction.

  • Input register Every input with its current version number and date
  • Missing input note Any missing input, the effect on the assessment and the action to obtain it
  • Retirement plan The decommissioning plan and the risks it creates
  • Version confirmation The risk lead's confirmation that the versions are current

Where it commonly fails

  • The stakeholder section is last quarter's version
  • The retirement plan does not exist
  • The evaluation report is a draft that was never approved

What to do before publication

Run an input version check before the assessment meeting. It takes minutes and prevents a rebuild.
