Outputs
The outputs are the data map, the metadata and an updated bias profile.
What clause 7.3 asks
Clause 7 has three outputs. The first is the data map, which connects the data to the identified stakeholders and their attributes. The second is the metadata, which records the conditions under which each data set was collected or created. The third is the updated bias profile, which receives the map, the metadata and the findings. The map and the metadata are not separate projects; they are two views of the same data record.
Why it matters
The outputs are what the later clauses consume. The evaluation needs the map to know which groups a test represents. The risk assessment needs the metadata to judge whether a data-related risk is credible. The profile needs both so a later reader can reconstruct the state of the data at the time of a decision. A team that produces a map without metadata has the population but not the conditions. A team that produces metadata without a map has the conditions but not the people.
What good looks like
Produce the map and the metadata in the same pass and cross-reference them. Give both a version that matches the profile version. Record the findings, including the uncomfortable ones, in the profile rather than in a separate slide. Then confirm that the data lead and the profile owner are looking at the same version.
Evidence an assessor asks for
The assessor will ask for the map and the metadata together. One without the other is a partial record.
- Data map The data to stakeholder attribute map, with coverage and imbalance
- Metadata The collection and creation conditions for each data set
- Profile update The new profile version with the map, metadata and findings
- Version link The map, metadata and profile versions that belong together
Where it commonly fails
- The map is a spreadsheet with no metadata
- The metadata is in a vendor portal the assessor cannot see
- The profile is not updated after the data work
What to do before publication
Version the map and the metadata with the profile. The three should move together.
